Ansur The Dragon Boss Fight Rewards
There are many enemies to face throughout Baldur's Gate 3, and of the optional bosses players will encounter in Act 3, Ansur The Dragon is one of the most fun and intimidating in the game. Part of Wyll's 'Blade of Frontiers' companion quest, finding Ansur may be a challenging task, as he is hidden in the depths below the city of Baldur's Gate.
The legend of Ansur, Heart of the Gate, circulates Baldur's Gate, but it's not just a legend, as this monstrous dragon truly lies beneath the city, supposedly awaiting a true hero. While seeking Ansur's aid, the party will unfortunately find that Ansur has passed, and what remains is an Undead version of him looking for a fight.

How To Find Ansur The Dragon
Enter Wyrm's Rock Prison
According to the legend, Ansur is located beneath the prison in Wyrm's Rock Fortress in Baldur's Gate 3. Therefore, to find the entrance to where he lies, you must first enter the prison, which you may have come across another quest line. Wyrm's Rock Prison is north of Rivington Waypoint, directly at the end of the main road.
There will be several enemies to fight upon entering unless you pass a Persuasion Check on the guards. At one of the dead ends of the Prison, there will be an area with two small dragon torch statues facing each other.
Using Lightning-based spells, such as Shocking Grasp, will cause these statues to reveal a hidden door.
There are four trials you and your party must pass to reach Ansur's Lair, as demonstrated in Gamerpillar's walkthrough, including the Chamber of Courage, Chamber of Strategy, Chamber of Justice, and the Chamber of Insight.
Each one contains unique challenges that the party must prove themselves through. Once all four have been completed, your group will finally face their fight with one of the most prevalent dragons in Baldur's Gate 3.
How To Defeat Ansur The Dragon
Boss Fight Preparation
The fight with Ansur will occur in two phases. It's highly recommended that the party comes in fully prepared for a long, dragged-out fight, which means lots of healing items or spells on hand, as well as the proper armor and resistance.
For this fight specifically, Lightning Resistance will go a long way, as Ansur's main damage strategy utilizes Lightning. The Undead dragon also has immunity to that which he casts, so it's best to avoid using Lightning damage against him.
Equip anything on hand that can provide that boost, including amulets and rings in Baldur's Gate 3, such as Sparkswal Ring, or prepare some Potions of Lightning-Resistance, if able. Additionally, the level 3 spell Protection From Energy also aids in Lightning Resistance.

Arrows of Dragon-Slaying are also valuable items to have on hand for this fight since they can deal additional damage to Dragons; however, they can be quite pricey and hard to find, so they may not be an option for everyone. Additionally, they will likely be a waste of Gold without a skilled Archer.
Boss Fight Strategy
As with other bosses in Baldur's Gate 3, other smaller enemies will assist Ansur but don't allow yourself to get distracted by them. Ansur will deal powerful AOE attacks that will also hit his allies, eventually killing them, so it's best not to waste time on these inevitable casualties. Instead, the party needs to focus on damaging Ansur quickly and in as few turns as possible because this fight will be tough even with extensive preparation.
Once entering phase two of the fight, Ansur will begin charging Stormheart Nova, which will deal damage throughout the entire area and is nearly impossible to dodge. The only chance players stand is hiding behind one of the pillars in the room unless they have some invulnerability active.
The Globe of Invulnerability spell can be used to dodge the Stormheart Nova attack, but this is a level 6 spell in BG3 that remains localized once active. Trying to stay in its active space while dealing damage can become more of a hindrance, so utilize it wisely.
For the second phase, players will need to use Potions of Speed as they will need to navigate around Ansur's attacks while also dealing their own damage. Be sure to stay spread out as much as possible so that smaller AOE attacks don't take out two of your party members at a time.
Additionally, he will move around frequently throughout the fight, so consider options that can allow multiple allies to move at once, like the Dimension Door spell. All in all, this is a difficult fight and will likely require more than one attempt.
A way to exploit this boss fight is to save scum in Baldur's Gate 3 by saving after completing the four trials before the fight. This will save your party from repeating the entire process, and you can re-load that save when Ansur has wiped out most of your party to try a more effective solution.
